FAU is a member of the global Scholars at Risk Network. Over 400 academic institutions from 39 countries are members of the network, which supports researchers who are under political pressure, threatened or persecuted because of their research. FAU’s membership of Scholars at Risk is only one of the many measures relating to refugees which FAU has been involved in since 2015.

Scholars at Risk was established in 1999 as part of the Human Rights Programme run by the University of Chicago and started its work a year later by organising a major international conference. Since then, some 2000 academics worldwide have received advice and support. This includes over 600 academic placements at member universities within the network.

Further information is available on the website of the German section of the Scholars at Risk Network, which was established in 2016 at the instigation of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Bonn.
