Lecture series “Integration” (2018)
Integration. Interdisciplinary perspectives
3rd Lecture series organised by the Forum for Integration and Intercultural Dialogue FAU INTEGRA
Integration is a much discussed term that leaves a lot of room for interpretation, as demonstrated by the discussion of the integration of foreign citizens and increasingly since 2015 in the debate about how to deal with refugees. There are those who support homogeneity and others who call for more emphasis on diversity. Some raise the idea of fitting in with the ‘dominant culture’, while others support a ‘multicultural’ approach. In academic discussions, the transdisciplinary term integration also takes on different meanings depending on the subject in question.
The aim of the series of lectures is therefore to highlight concepts and models for integration from various interdisciplinary perspectives and to question the various approaches in view of their relevance for the current debate on integration. Sociological and political theories play a role, as do scientific and aesthetic approaches. The aim is to open up constructive channels of thought and explore connections between them.
